What is a BIA?
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) is a commonly used method for estimating body composition, and in particular body fat, total body water, intracellar and extracelluar water, muslce mass, phase angle, and basic metabolic rate. It uses two different electric currents to determine ones “resistance” and “reactance”. By using these two numbers, we are able to track how your body composition is changing through detoxification, weight changes, and other functional medicine protocols.
Will I feel anything:
A BIA uses a very small amount of electrical current, you wont feel a thing when having one done. The total time to preform a BIA is less the 5 minutes, with most of it getting prepared for the BIA.
How to prepare for a BIA?
– No exercise or sauna within 8 hours of test
– No alcohol within 12 hours of test
– Drink lots of water they day before test
– No lotion, or oils on the hands or feet
– No caffeine the day of test
